Real Estate Industry Should Be “Anti-Competitive”

I was speaking with an agent who moved to Austin from Dallas. She marveled at how open and sharing my fellow Keller Williams Realty agents are here in Austin. I recently held several classes for agents to share our insights, resources, tools and ideas about how they can improve their business.

500soapboxpic_2On the contrary, the nature of real estate business in larger cities like Dallas or Houston and at other brokerages can be different, as there isn’t much sharing due to the fact that 90% of agents view each other as "competition". This may be why the real estate industry is sometimes held in a bad light.

SAGE BUSINESS ADVICE FROM ATOP THE "SOAP BOX"

I believe sharing in the real estate industry sparks creativity and inspires change. Business owners, agents and brokers are not all the same.

Anti-competitive practices should be redefined! Instead of
price-fixing, steering, redlining or using other illegal tactics,
anti-competition should mean that business owners
rely on their own expertise, personality, credibility, past clients,
friends, network, involvement and accomplishments to acquire new
clients.
Therefore, when we advertise, we’d move away from
mudslinging and negative tactics that harm the public perception of the
industry as a whole.

Anti-competition should mean we’d focus on our own strengths and even share them with each other. If you think it can’t happen, the revolution is already underway through online blogs and forums! See some anti-competitive agents and investors in action:
